I went into *True Navy Blue* expecting a quick military romance fling, but Hamilton delivered something sharper: a romance that understands the weight of service and the fear of abandonment. J.D. Hart’s narration is the real standout here—his voice has a natural cadence that makes Zak’s gruff protectiveness feel earned, not forced. Hart doesn’t overact the emotional scenes; instead, he lets the silences speak volumes, which is exactly what this story needs. My one quibble? The second act rushes a bit, skimming over the emotional fallout of Zak’s deployment with a few too many summary chapters. It’s forgivable because the payoff in the final act is worth it, but I’d have loved a deeper dive into Amy’s coping mechanisms post-separation. Production-wise, everything is crisp, with no audio artifacts or distracting background noise, and the pacing keeps you engaged from the opening line to the last. If you love military romances with a side of suspense and a narrator who respects the material, this is a solid pick.
