I’ve listened to dozens of business audiobooks, but *Unscripted* is the first that made me *angry*—in the best way. DeMarco’s argument that most people are ‘scripted’ to trade time for money isn’t new, but his breakdown of *how* to break free is brutally specific. The section on ‘The Five Commandments of Fastlane Wealth’ (need, entry, control, scale, time) alone is worth the 17-hour runtime. I especially appreciated his rant on why ‘follow your passion’ is terrible advice—he replaces it with a far more practical (and provocative) mantra: *‘Solve problems at scale.’* Scott Thomas’s narration grows on you. At first, his stern, almost abrasive tone feels jarring, but it soon clicks: this isn’t a book for passive listeners. His delivery turns DeMarco’s tough-love lessons into a bootcamp session. My only critique? The production occasionally suffers from uneven audio levels—some chapters sound slightly muffled, while others are crisp. And DeMarco’s dismissal of ‘slow lane’ careers (like teaching or nursing) as inherently inferior feels overly binary; not everyone *wants* to build an empire, and that’s okay. Still, if you’re serious about entrepreneurship, this audiobook will rewire how you think about work, wealth, and freedom. Just be ready to squirm.
