I’ll admit: I side-eyed the premise at first. Another polyamory romance? But *Venus Wedding* hooked me in the first chapter when Jessica snaps at Justin for assuming she’d ‘obviously’ walk down the aisle with Chris—because *why* is that obvious? Golden Angel has a knack for exposing the unspoken hierarchies even in egalitarian relationships, and the wedding planning becomes a pressure cooker for all of it. The scene where the trio tries to write their own vows had me laughing out loud (Chris’s ‘I promise not to hog the blankets’ is undercut by Justin’s deadpan ‘That’s not a vow, that’s a lie’), but the humor never undercuts the stakes. Pillifant’s performance is *almost* flawless—her Justin is so warmly gruff that I’d follow him into any audiobook, and she nails the trio’s distinct rhythms. My only critique? A few of Jessica’s snarkier lines land a beat too flat, like she’s reading them rather than feeling them. And while the pacing is generally sharp, the subplot about Justin’s estranged brother drags slightly in the middle; it’s resolved too neatly for a book that otherwise thrives on ambiguity. Still, the production quality is impeccable—no jarring edits or volume shifts—and the raw, unpolished ending (no spoilers, but bring tissues) cements this as a standout. If you’ve ever loved someone in a way the world doesn’t have a script for, this one’s for you.
