As someone who's grown up hearing snippets of the Vietnam War, I found Ham's 'Vietnam' both illuminating and unsettling. Byrne's narration is exceptional, his ability to convey emotion and tension making the 31-hour runtime fly by. The production is minimalist, letting the stories take center stage, which is just as well, as Ham's research is nothing short of extraordinary. My only critique is that at times, the sheer volume of detail can be overwhelming. But then again, that's the point - Ham wants us to confront the complexity and horror of war.
