Overy masterfully connects the dots between seemingly unrelated conflicts, showing how innovations in warfare, the role of technology, and the brutal calculus of political ambition unfold across millennia, often with chilling relevance to today. Crossley's narration is excellent – his articulate British voice has a natural cadence that makes even the densest strategic analysis fly by.
