I flew through When the Wolf Comes Home narrated by its author, Helen Laser, with Nat Cassidy providing the spoken word. Her narration isn't just reading the book; she is embodying the simmering tension and the raw edge of Cassidy's prose. The pacing is relentless, dragging you into the desolate landscape and the protagonist's desperate choices. There's a fantastic atmospheric quality to the horror; it's not just monsters, but the erosion of reality and the psychological toll of isolation. The narrator does an excellent job conveying the protagonist's internal conflict and the escalating dread. However, some of the secondary character motivations felt a bit underdeveloped, and the werewolf mythology, while integral, leans into familiar tropes at times.
