L.J. Ganser’s narration is the secret weapon that turns this audiobook from a clever novelty into an immersive experience. His Eddie Valiant is a grizzled, wisecracking everyman with the perfect rasp—a voice that sounds like it’s been sanded down by too many late nights in a smoggy Hollywood bar. But the real magic is in his depiction of the toons: Ganser’s Jessica Rabbit is all smoky seduction and razor-sharp wit, while Roger’s hyperventilating panic feels like a rabbit who’s just spotted his own tail in a blender. The production supports this brilliantly, with subtle sound effects (clinking glasses, honking horns) that never distract from the story but do a lot to sell the film noir-meets-cartoon universe. That said, the pacing stumbles in the middle third, where the mystery drags under the weight of its own gags—think of it like a Looney Tunes short that’s running on fumes, but that’s part of the charm.
