Alexandria Wilde’s narration is the secret weapon of this audiobook—her voice drips with the kind of sultry, gravelly warmth that makes Selene’s internal turmoil sound like a whispered confession to a lover. She nails the duality of Selene’s character, shifting seamlessly between haunted vulnerability and feral intensity without ever losing the thread of the story. Wilde’s pacing is a masterclass in restraint; she lets the silence between Selene’s growls and gasps linger just long enough to make the heart race, then crashes back in with a raw emotional punch. The production quality is crisp, immersive, and never intrusive, letting the story’s darker edges breathe while keeping the romance front and center. That said, the one thing that tripped me up was O’Brien’s occasional reliance on cliché shapeshifter tropes—werewolf hunger metaphors that felt a tad overused in a genre that’s otherwise so inventive. And while Selene’s internal conflict is gripping, the human love interest, Rayne, sometimes feels more like a plot device than a fully realized character, which dulled the emotional payoff when Selene’s choices hinged on her. Still, Wilde’s performance elevates the material enough to make those flaws forgivable, if not forgettable.
