Wild Ride

I’ll admit, I rolled my eyes at first when Sylvester—yet another ‘tired immortal’ trope—got pinned to his kitchen floor. But *Wild Ride* subverts expectations faster than Ellias can draw a blade. Rusch writes dialogue that *snaps*, and the chemistry between these two is less ‘will they, won’t they’ and more ‘how much damage will they do to each other (and the furniture) before they give in?’ The pacing is relentless, with fight scenes that feel choreographed for audio—Myers’ delivery makes every punch and parry land with weight. That said, the worldbuilding sometimes feels secondary to the Sylvester-Ellias showdown, which won’t bother listeners here for the enemies-to-lovers fireworks but might leave lore-hounds wanting. And while Myers nails the leads, a few secondary characters blur together in tone. Still, the narration’s strength lies in how it sells the absurdity: when Sylvester growls, *“You’re standing in my blood,”* and Ellias purrs back, *“I know,”* the subtext is so thick you could cut it with a silver knife. The production is clean, with no distracting edits, letting the story’s chaotic energy take center stage. If you love your romance with a side of claws and a narrator who can make threats sound like dirty talk, this is your next binge-listen—just maybe don’t play it on speaker at work.
