Briggs separates characters with deft, light touches so Masklin doesn’t blur with other nomes, and his pacing lets the suspense unfold without ever getting claustrophobic. The sound design is unobtrusive but effective; I appreciated clean dialogue, clear consonants, and gentle pauses that let jokes land and you catch the next beat without missing a line. What I loved most was the balance between invention and heart: the nomes improvise, cooperate, and celebrate small wins as if the entire fate of their world hinges on a clever workaround, which it does. The Florida-seeking expedition frame gives a rare sense of the story's reach beyond the shelves of a store, and Briggs's narration maintains a child-friendly energy while inviting grown-up listeners to savor the wordplay—Pratchett's puns land with a twinkle rather than a groan. My one quibble is that the book sometimes feels episodic, with neat set-pieces that contribute to the whole but occasionally pull you out of momentum for a beat. Still, Briggs's performance carries you through, and Wings lands with warmth, humor, and a reminder that a crew of resourceful little underdogs can move mountains when they work together and keep aiming for the impossible.
