About This Audiobook

Wish Lists and Road Trips isn’t your average forced-proximity romance—it’s a sharply observed, emotionally grounded journey where two strangers rediscover themselves by getting gloriously, comically lost. Brit Donovan, a meticulous event planner with a five-year vision, and Alex Rivera, a free-spirited muralist who lives paycheck to sunset, collide during a flight cancellation in Santa Fe. Their uneasy truce—Brit needing to be in Portland for a milestone birthday, Alex chasing a mural commission in Chicago—sparks a cross-country drive that unravels plans, defenses, and eventually, layers of guarded hearts. Lauren H. Mae sidesteps rom-com clichés by grounding every detour in emotional honesty, from a roadside goat yoga debacle to a tense overnight stay in a haunted Nebraska motel.

Editor's Review ★★★★

AudioBook Atlas

As someone who’s listened to dozens of road-trip romances, I can say Elise Roth and Luke Hayes elevate this one with understated brilliance. Roth gives Brit a crisp, tightly wound cadence that slowly softens—her voice cracks just slightly during a voicemail she can’t send, and it wrecked me. Hayes brings a lazy warmth to Alex, but never lets his charm mask insecurity. Their dual narration isn’t just functional; it’s essential—each chapter shift feels like stepping into the other’s emotional world. The chemistry builds slowly, which I appreciated, but the audiobook stumbles slightly in the third act—there’s a rushed confrontation in a highway diner that needed more breathing room. Still, the production shines: subtle soundscapes (dripping taps, distant train whistles) deepen immersion without overdoing it. Mae’s prose is witty but never glib, and the way she ties Brit’s abandoned childhood wish list to present-day choices adds emotional weight most genre entries miss. Not all the side characters land—Brit’s sister feels undercooked—but overall, this is audiobook storytelling at its most intimate and rewarding.
