I’ll admit, I side-eyed the 27-hour runtime at first. But *Wrecked Beginnings* earned every minute—mostly because the narration team refuses to let your attention wander. Joe Arden’s gravelly baritone is the perfect match for Cowles’ protective-but-damaged heroes, but it’s Andi Arndt who steals the show, delivering inner monologues with a mix of sarcasm and vulnerability that makes the female leads feel like your best friend confiding over wine. The real surprise? How well the narrators handle the suspense threads. A lesser performance would’ve made the darker plot twists feel tacked-on, but here, the tension is *palpable*—especially in *Book 2*, where a stalker subplot had me glancing over my shoulder during my commute. That said, this isn’t flawless. The first novel’s meet-cute drags just a touch too long, and Cowles’ habit of resolving conflicts with *one* dramatic confession (repeated across all three books) starts to feel formulaic by Hour 20. The production also stumbles slightly with inconsistent audio levels during a few of Ava Erickson’s chapters—nothing deal-breaking, but noticeable if you’re listening on noise-canceling headphones. Still, the strengths wildly outweigh the quibbles. The way the narrators handle the Alaska setting (Arden’s voice roughens up in the cold-air scenes; Arndt’s breathes out visible “clouds” in her delivery) is the kind of detail that turns a good audiobook into a great one. If you love romance with actual stakes—and narrators who *act* rather than just read—this is your next obsession.
