Alice

As an avid history enthusiast, I eagerly dove into this audiobook, expecting a straightforward royal biography. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth and emotional complexity of Princess Alice's story. Narrator Tim Bentinck's portrayal of the characters, particularly the central figure of Alice, was impeccable. His voice conveyed the proper British accent that added authenticity to the narrative, while also allowing the listener to feel the characters' emotions and experiences. The pacing was well-executed, with moments of intense drama seamlessly transitioning into more reflective passages. One aspect that stood out to me was the attention to detail in the historical context provided by Vickers, which gave me a greater understanding of the political and social factors influencing Alice's life. However, I did find that some of the descriptions of court life could feel a bit dry at times, and I wished for more in-depth exploration of Alice's relationships with her children, particularly Prince Philip.
