I was blown away by the raw energy of 'And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks'. Ray Porter's narration is superb, capturing the frenetic pace and dark humor of Kerouac's writing. The story is both a fascinating historical artifact and a compelling mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. One of the standout aspects is the way the narrative jumps between different characters and perspectives, creating a sense of disjointedness that mirrors the chaos of the events unfolding. My only quibble is that some of the supporting characters feel a bit underdeveloped, and at times the pacing can feel a bit rushed. Overall, though, this is a must-listen for fans of literary fiction and the Beat Generation.
