As someone who's always been drawn to the intricacies of Tudor politics, I found 'Archbishop, Chancellor, Kingmaker' an absolute gem. Given-Wilson's narrative is as engaging as it is informative, painting a vivid picture of Arundel's rise to power and his pivotal role in the deposition of Richard II. Martyn Swain's narration is a perfect fit for this historical biography, his measured pace and clear enunciation making even the most dense passages easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed his ability to convey Arundel's steely determination and political acumen. However, at times, the detailed descriptions of political maneuverings can feel a bit dry, and some listeners might wish for more personal insights into Arundel's character. Overall, though, this is a compelling listen that sheds new light on a fascinating figure from England's past.
