Archie Greene and the Alchemist's Curse

When Archie’s firemark burns, it *hurts*; when he botches a spell, the fallout isn’t just a messy room but a genuine threat. That’s rare in kids’ fantasy, and it makes the stakes feel real. The curse itself is a fantastic villain—less a mustache-twirling baddie, more a creeping, inevitable force, like a magical cancer. I wish the side characters (especially Archie’s friends) had more depth, but the central mystery—why *him*? why *now*?—keeps the plot humming. Now, the narration: Mark Topping is *excellent*, but not flawless. His Archie is pitch-perfect—youthful without being whiny—and his villain voices (particularly the sinister Mr. Roke) are deliciously chilling. My only gripe?
