Attaboy

Dan Bittner and Helen Laser deliver a powerhouse performance, capturing Jesse's raw, visceral pain and his desperate struggle for redemption. Bittner's gruff, worn-out voice is the perfect embodiment of Jesse's weary soul, while Laser's warm, nurturing tone brings a much-needed humanity to the story. The pacing is breakneck, with Tallent's tight, punchy chapters propelling the listener forward like a runaway train. However, the story's relentless bleakness can feel overwhelming at times, and the lack of a clear narrative arc may leave some listeners craving a more traditional three-act structure. Despite this, Attaboy is a gripping, unapologetic exploration of addiction and the human spirit that demands to be heard.
