The narration by Virtual Voice is a standout—less polished than a studio recording, more immersive than a traditional audiobook. The virtual voice actor leans into the rough-hewn dialogue of the pirates, their voices dripping with gravel and whiskey, while Bandoor’s lines slither out with a serpentine hiss that’s genuinely unsettling. The pacing is relentless; there’s no room for filler here, just one brutal set piece after another. That said, the middle act drags slightly when the story pivots to a heist-style sequence—necessary, but it lacks the visceral punch of the tavern brawls and sea battles that bookend it. Still, the payoff is worth it. By the time Bandoor’s dilemma collides with the town’s explosive underbelly, you’ll be white-knuckling your phone, waiting to see who gets the final cut. If you crave adventure with teeth and a protagonist who’s as broken as she is dangerous, this is your next listen.
