I’ll admit, I was skeptical about a virtual narrator handling a series this dense—I’ve been burned by robotic cadences in past audiobooks—but Virtual Voice absolutely surprised me. The tone is measured yet dynamic, shifting seamlessly between Bridget’s steel-trap focus and her moments of vulnerability without any jarring disconnects. The production quality is pristine, with subtle sound design that immerses you in each crime scene without overpowering the dialogue. That said, there were a couple of instances where the pacing stumbled slightly during transitions between cases, making the shift feel abrupt rather than purposeful. Woodhall’s writing shines brightest in the way she balances the procedural elements with Bridget’s personal life. The cases are meticulously researched, and the clues are cleverly seeded, rewarding active listeners who love to play detective alongside the team. My only minor critique is that a few of the secondary characters, particularly in Book 6, blur together—it’s easy to lose track of who’s who in the heat of the moment. But these are nitpicks in an otherwise gripping collection. If you’re a fan of smart, character-driven thrillers that keep you guessing until the last page, this boxset is a must-listen. I devoured the first two books in one sitting and immediately queued up the next.
