Rosenberg’s performance is a masterclass in tonal balance: she gives Smooshie the gruff, no-nonsense cadence of a hardboiled detective (if that detective were a 60-pound lapdog), while Lily’s voice carries the weight of someone perpetually five seconds from bolting. The chemistry between them sells the whole thing. The mysteries themselves are solid, if not groundbreaking—think *Murder, She Wrote* with a supernatural twist—but the joy is in the details. The way Lily’s cougar senses heighten the tension (smelling fear on a suspect? *Chef’s kiss*), or how the town’s human residents obliviously orbit the paranormal undercurrent. My two critiques: the first book’s romance subplot feels rushed, like George wasn’t sure whether to lean into it or not, and the audio production occasionally suffers from uneven volume during Smooshie’s growlier lines. But these are quibbles. By Book 3, I was fully invested in Moonrise’s chaos, from the bakery’s cursed muffin tin to the werewolf pack’s *very* extra book club.
