About This Audiobook

At Eastbrooke Academy, where tuition costs more than a small country’s GDP, social climbing isn’t a sport—it’s survival. Jillian Dodd delivers a glittering, emotionally raw take on the boarding-school romance genre, where trust funds buy silence and betrayal comes with a designer label. The story centers on a tight-knit trio of girls whose friendship fractures under the weight of jealousy, ambition, and a boy who’s every bit as toxic as his Instagram feed. Dodd doesn’t flinch from the uglier sides of privilege: entitlement that curdles into cruelty, wealth that buys complicity, and the crushing isolation of being surrounded by people who only love you for what you can do for them. Yet beneath the designer heels and helicopter parents, this is ultimately a tale about reclaiming identity from the expectations of others—messy, painful, and fiercely relatable.

The audiobook shines thanks to Maren McGuire’s razor-sharp narration. McGuire nails the unmistakable cadence of teen entitlement, shifting effortlessly between brittle arrogance and raw vulnerability in a single breath. Her portrayal of the protagonist’s internal unraveling is especially haunting, making you lean in closer during late-night listening sessions. The production balances lush soundscapes—think rain on Georgian windows, the hum of private jets—with intimate close-ups, ensuring every whispered secret feels like it’s being confided directly into your ear.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

Maren McGuire deserves an award for making me care about people who spend $60,000 a year to be miserable. Her narration turns what could’ve been a forgettable YA melodrama into a compulsive listen, especially during the explosive confrontation scenes where her delivery crackles with unfiltered rage. The audiobook clocks in at just over seven hours, which is both a blessing and a curse—there’s not a single dull moment, yet I’m still exhausted from the emotional whiplash by the end. That said, the story stumbles when it leans too hard on its ‘poor little rich girl’ premise. The parents are either cartoonishly absent or actively villainous, which robs the conflicts of any real stakes beyond petty squabbles. And while McGuire’s performance elevates the dialogue, some supporting characters sound eerily similar, making it hard to distinguish between the frenemies when their voices blend together mid-tirade. Still, the chemistry between the leads is electric, and the audiobook’s pacing never falters—even when the plot does. If you love your romances messy, loud, and dripping with privilege, this is your guilty pleasure.
