I approached *Billionaire Unknown* expecting the usual billionaire-bites-employee trope, but J.S. Scott and Elizabeth Powers delivered something far more layered. Powers’ narration is a masterclass in restraint—her Avery is a woman who’s spent years performing composure for boardrooms and charities, and you can hear the fractures in her voice every time the billionaire (a gloriously opaque villain-hero) walks into the room. The production quality is pristine; the slight echo in the penthouse scenes adds an immersive layer of space and isolation that mirrors Avery’s emotional state. That said, the story stumbles in its final act when the emotional payoff leans a little too heavily on clichés about ‘true love conquering all.’ The chemistry between the leads is undeniable—Scott writes their dynamic with a razor’s edge of tension—but the resolution feels rushed, as if the audiobook’s runtime couldn’t quite accommodate the depth of their internal arcs. Still, the journey is worth the detour. If you’re here for smoldering tension and a heroine who’s equal parts ice queen and inferno, this delivers in spades. Powers’ performance alone makes it a standout.
