The world-building is subtle but devastating—Eucalyptus, the arts collective where she finds purpose, feels like a sanctuary until it isn’t, and Emezi doesn’t flinch from showing how even the most idealistic spaces can become cages. My only real critique? The pacing drags in the middle when the revolutionary plot takes over; it’s necessary, but it’s where the audiobook loses a little momentum. The production is otherwise flawless, with no distracting audio artifacts, just Turpin’s voice and the occasional ambient hum of a city on the edge. This isn’t just a YA novel—it’s a gut-check for anyone who’s ever felt powerless. Listen to it, then go do something reckless.
