About This Audiobook

Stephen Leather's 'Black Ops' is a pulse-quickening addition to the Spider Shepherd series, where MI5 agent Dan 'Spider' Shepherd must prevent a high-profile assassination on British soil. Leather's signature blend of gritty realism and breakneck pacing ensures this isn't just another spy thriller. Paul Thornley's narration is a standout, bringing Shepherd's steely determination and moral ambiguity to life with a subtle, understated delivery that perfectly complements the story's tense, often brutal action.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I've been a fan of the Spider Shepherd series for years, but 'Black Ops' might just be Leather's most gripping installment yet. The plot is a ticking time bomb, with Shepherd's undercover mission to infiltrate a terrorist cell feeling painfully real in our current climate. Thornley's narration is exceptional, capturing Shepherd's quiet intensity and the chilling banter between characters. The production is minimalist, letting the story and performances take center stage. My only critique is that some of the supporting characters feel a bit one-dimensional, but that's a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding audiobook. The pacing is relentless, with Leather masterfully balancing high-stakes action and quieter, more introspective moments. If you're a fan of gritty, realistic thrillers, 'Black Ops' is a must-listen.
