About This Audiobook

In 'Blast from the Past', Damien Boyd masterfully weaves a tale that's as chilling as the Cold War era it's set in. Retired DI Mungo 'Bob' Willis, a character as gruff as they come, is assigned to a new Cold Case Unit and reopens the investigation into the 1962 disappearance of a nine-year-old boy. Boyd's intricate plotting and atmospheric prose transport you back to a time when the specter of nuclear war loomed large. Nicholas Boulton's narration is a standout, bringing Willis' world-weary cynicism to life with a gravelly, no-nonsense voice that's perfect for this gritty procedural.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I was immediately drawn into 'Blast from the Past' by its unique premise and the compelling voice of Nicholas Boulton. He's a narrator who can make even the most mundane details of police procedure sound intriguing, and his ability to convey Willis' weariness and determination is nothing short of impressive. Boyd's writing is lean and mean, with a pacing that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story is filled with twists and turns that had me guessing until the very end. My only critique is that some of the secondary characters could have been more fully developed, but this is a minor quibble in an otherwise outstanding audiobook. If you're a fan of police procedurals with a historical twist, this one's a must-listen.
