The pacing is deliberate, almost leisurely, which might frustrate listeners expecting jump scares or breakneck thrills, but it pays off in the story’s meticulous atmosphere. Where the book stumbles is in its reliance on info-dumps during the first act; some magical lore sessions drag, and the chemistry between Nachari and his human foil feels undercooked compared to the vivid world around them. That said, the audio production is flawless—every creak, whisper, and distant howl feels intentional, placing you right in the Carpathian foothills. By the final act, when the shadows come alive, I was hooked. This isn’t a horror story you’ll endure; it’s one you’ll savor, even as it gnaws at your nerves.
