Editor's Review

AudioBook Atlas

As someone who's spent countless hours immersed in urban fantasy, I was impressed by the sheer complexity of Bone to Bone's world. Martha Carr's knack for creating a sense of place is unparalleled – from the cramped, dimly-lit bars of the city to the eerie, abandoned landscapes of the outskirts, every setting feels meticulously crafted to draw the listener in. Amanda Friday's narration is the perfect complement to this, bringing a level of nuance and emotion to the story that makes it feel utterly lived-in. One of the things that really stood out to me about Bone to Bone was its use of memories as a narrative device. Carr's idea of a memory merchant who can extract and sell people's recollections is darkly clever, and raises all sorts of interesting questions about the nature of identity and reality. If I have any criticisms, it's that the supporting cast sometimes feels a bit one-dimensional – there are a few characters who feel like they're waiting for more development, but overall the story moves at such a breakneck pace that it's hard to get too hung up on that. Overall, I'd highly recommend Bone to Bone to fans of urban fantasy and supernatural mystery.
