CC Kline’s narration is the beating heart of this audiobook, shifting seamlessly from the protagonist’s terrified gasps to the guttural growls of the alphas who claim her. Kline’s voice work alone is worth the listen, but the real magic is how she makes Michelle’s world feel tactile—you’ll swear you can smell the pine forests of the shifter enclave or taste the metallic tang of a fight wound. The pacing is relentless, which works in its favor, though I’ll admit the middle stretch dips into repetitive power struggles that could’ve used a tighter edit. Michelle’s heroine is refreshingly flawed; she’s not some simpering damsel, but her internal monologues occasionally veer into whiny territory, which grated after a few hours. That said, the climax is a knockout—raw, messy, and emotionally exhausting in the best way. The production is crisp, with no distracting artifacts, though the sound design for pack howls could’ve been more immersive. Still, Kline’s performance sells the stakes, and by the end, you’ll be invested enough to overlook a few narrative hiccups.
