His voice for Special Agent Marcus Clay (the reluctant hero caught in the storm) has the gravel of a man who’s seen too much and slept too little, while the Chinese operatives sound slick, almost polite, as they dangle carrots laced with cyanide. Berkrot nails the tonal shifts: one moment he’s delivering congressional testimony in a monotone that could lull a room to sleep, the next he’s sprinting through underground tunnels with a ragged edge that’ll make your pulse match his. The production itself is pristine—no distracting reverb from the storm, no tinny echoes in the tunnels—just clear audio that disappears, leaving you entirely inside the plot’s maw. My only nitpick: the Chinese translator’s voice is so neutral it occasionally blends into the background during tense exchanges, forcing me to rewind once or twice. Structurally, the story takes a few chapters to hit its stride, spending too long on procedural minutiae before the real fireworks start. Still, by the midpoint, I was 370 minutes in and couldn’t hit the ‘sleep timer’ button fast enough.
