But here’s the thing: it *works*, at least if you’re in the mood for something unabashedly over-the-top. Cachou Kirsch’s narration is the audiobook’s double-edged sword. Her voice is rich and expressive, dripping with the kind of sensuality that sells the steamier scenes, but she occasionally oversells the angst, turning what should be tense whispers into full-blown theatrical soliloquies. The pacing suffers in the middle act, where Rivens’ tendency to loop Ella’s inner turmoil starts to feel like a stalling tactic. And while the French translation keeps the dialogue sharp, some of the suspense elements—like Asher’s shadowy backstory—get lost in the shuffle, replaced by more *feels* than thrills.
