Wilde’s writing thrives on sensory overload, and the narration team commits entirely. Macie Miller’s performance as the dying protagonist is so viscerally real that I found myself holding my breath during her sprints, her voice a raw blend of fury and resignation. When she whispers, *‘I’m not going down without a fight,’* you believe her, not because it’s heroic, but because it’s the only thing left. Marcus Rayne’s demonic role is where the audiobook gets interesting. He doesn’t play the villain as a snarling monster; there’s a seductive, almost weary quality to his delivery, like he’s as tired of the apocalypse as the heroine is. The chemistry between them is electric, but it’s the *kind* of electricity that could either power a city or burn it to the ground. My only critique? The pacing in the middle act drags slightly—Wilde lingers a beat too long on the protagonist’s physical deterioration, and while it’s thematically fitting, it tests the listener’s endurance. And while the sound design is innovative (those distorted, echoing voices during flashbacks are *chef’s kiss*), a few transitions between narrators feel abrupt, jolting you out of the moment.
