Erik isn’t your typical brooding hero; he’s a soldier who’s exhausted by duty, and Loughlan’s performance sells that weariness without making him whiny. His voice drops into a growl during battle scenes, then shifts to something almost hesitant when Erik’s guard slips around the female lead. It’s a subtle but effective contrast. That said, the romance feels rushed even by novella standards. One minute they’re at each other’s throats; the next, there’s a kiss that’s supposed to feel earned but lands more like a plot checkpoint. The worldbuilding, too, is serviceable but skeletal—you’ll get the vibe of Viking-era Ireland, but don’t expect rich cultural immersion. Still, the audio production is crisp, with no distracting edits or volume spikes, and the battle scenes *crackle* with energy.
