City of Fear

I’ll be honest: I went into *City of Fear* expecting another by-the-numbers cartel vs. mafia showdown. What I got instead was a masterclass in controlled chaos. Enmon’s Dallas feels alive—sweaty, violent, and morally bankrupt—where every character, from the aging mob consigliere to the overmatched detective, is either a predator or prey. The plot kicks off with Ricardo Salazar’s murder, but the real hook is how Enmon unspools the aftermath: alliances shatter in minutes, double-crosses stack up like dominoes, and the city itself becomes a character, humid with paranoia. Angelo Di Loreto’s performance is *perfection* for this material. His voice has that lived-in rasp, like a guy who’s chain-smoked his way through one too many stakeouts. He nails the rhythm of Enmon’s dialogue—especially the darkly comic bits, like a mobster complaining about Dallas BBQ while planning a hit. My only critique? The sheer number of players (and their nicknames) can get confusing in audio format; a print reader might flip back, but here, you’re along for the ride whether you’re oriented or not. Also, the ending’s brutality—while thematically fitting—might leave some listeners craving a sliver of redemption. But that’s the point: *City of Fear* doesn’t deal in happy endings. It deals in consequences, and it’s all the better for it.
