Beth Stewart’s performance is the reason this audiobook works as well as it does. She nails the razor’s edge of Aisling Sturbridge’s personality—equal parts regal and ruthless, with a dry wit that cuts through the city’s grime. The way she modulates between the novices’ chaotic energy and the older vampires’ calculated menace makes the power dynamics feel tangible, like you’re standing in the Chantry’s shadowy corridors with a gun in one hand and a spellbook in the other. Stewart also has a knack for pacing; even the denser passages of exposition feel like they’re moving forward, not just existing. That said, the novices themselves blur together at times. Griffin gives them distinct voices on the page, but Stewart’s performance can’t fully compensate for the lack of clear auditory cues to differentiate them in rapid-fire dialogue. It’s a minor gripe, but one that might frustrate listeners who prefer their characters to stand out more distinctly. The production itself is top-notch—crisp audio quality and immersive sound design that never feels gimmicky—but there’s a moment late in the book where a critical fight scene feels slightly rushed, as if the editor was more concerned with hitting the runtime than letting the tension breathe. Still, these are nitpicks in an otherwise gripping listen. If you’re a fan of urban fantasy that doesn’t shy away from moral gray areas or the cost of power, *Clan Novel: Tremere* is a blood-soaked masterclass.
