I went into *Compelled to Wed the Duke* expecting yet another forgettable marriage-of-convenience trope, but Aria Norton delivered something far more compelling: a romance where both leads are actively terrible to each other, yet you can’t look away. The duke, in particular, is a masterclass in unlikable charm—his icy disdain for Isabella is so meticulously crafted that his rare moments of vulnerability feel like a betrayal of the villainous facade he’s perfected. Isabella, meanwhile, is the kind of heroine who’d probably slap him in real life but can’t resist the way his voice drops into something dangerously soft when he’s furious. The chemistry is electric, even if the narration occasionally undercuts it with a detached, almost robotic delivery that struggles to convey the book’s snarkier moments. The production itself is clean—no distracting plosives or muffled dialogue—but the lack of tonal variation in Virtual Voice’s performance sometimes makes the duke’s biting remarks land with less impact than they deserve.
