I went into *Corruption* expecting another standard mafia romance, but Jenika Snow delivered something far more compelling: a story where desire and power play out in a morally gray landscape that refuses to glamourize toxic dynamics. The narrator’s internal conflict feels raw, almost painful at times, which makes his eventual surrender to Anastasia’s allure that much more satisfying. James Jospeh’s narration sells this internal struggle perfectly—his voice carries the weight of a man who knows he’s doomed but can’t look away. The audiobook’s pacing is tight, too; Snow keeps the tension simmering through long, charged silences that make the inevitable passion hit harder. That said, the story’s biggest strength is also its riskiest. Snow leans hard into the mafia trope of “the bad man redeemed by love,” and while the narrator’s arc works, some might find the lack of consequences for his past actions frustrating. The audiobook’s production is mostly seamless, but there’s a handful of moments where the music feels overlaid a beat too late, breaking the immersion. Still, if you’re here for a story that doesn’t flinch from the messy, ugly parts of desire, *Corruption* is a masterclass in how to make forbidden love feel urgent and real. Just don’t expect a fairy-tale ending—this is a tale of obsession, not salvation.
