I went into *Creekers* expecting another backwoods slasher with familiar tropes, but Edward Lee delivered something far more unsettling: a story where the real monster is the town itself. J Rodney Turner’s narration is a revelation—his voice drips with the weariness of a man who’s seen too much, and his timing is impeccable, whether he’s delivering a punchline in the midst of carnage or letting a moment of quiet horror hang in the air. The audiobook’s pacing is flawless, too; Lee doesn’t rush the dread, and Turner’s performance ensures you’re invested long before the first body hits the floor. That said, the book isn’t without its flaws. The supernatural elements feel tacked on at times, as if Lee couldn’t decide whether this was a grounded horror or a full-blown occult nightmare. The middle act drags a bit as Phil’s backstory unfolds, though Turner’s narration keeps it from feeling like a slog. The production is solid, with clean audio and no distracting artifacts, but the real star is Turner’s ability to make even the most grotesque descriptions feel intimate. If you’re a horror fan who likes your terror with a side of existential dread and a narrator who doesn’t shy away from the gore, *Creekers* is a must-listen.
