As someone who has always been drawn to stories set in New York during the 1970s, I was captivated by the raw and gritty world that Colson Whitehead has created in 'Crook Manifesto'. From the very first chapter, Dion Graham's narration had me hooked, his rich, velvety voice bringing each character to life with a deft touch. Whitehead's writing is sharp and intelligent, but it's the narrator's ability to convey the emotional depth of the story that truly sets this audiobook apart. However, I did find that some of the subplots felt a bit underdeveloped, and I would have liked to see more exploration of the main character's relationships with those around him.
