I was immediately drawn into The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, narrated by the talented Bahni Turpin. Turpin's voice is engaging and expressive, capturing the desperation and hope of Cora, the novel's protagonist, as she escapes the bonds of slavery. Whitehead's inventive storytelling takes listeners on a thrilling journey, blending history and fantasy to create a powerful narrative. One of my favorite aspects was the pacing - the story never drags, keeping me on the edge of my seat. However, at times the complex plot can be overwhelming, making it difficult to keep track of all the subplots and characters. Despite this minor critique, The Underground Railroad is a compelling listen that I would highly recommend to fans of literary fiction and historical fiction.
