She captures the protagonist’s chilling duality with eerie precision, making the shift from bubbly teen to calculating predator feel organic rather than jarring. The pacing is relentless; even in a tight 100-minute runtime, the story never drags, though I did find the ending a touch too abrupt—like the author hit stop on a cliffhanger mid-reveal. Krause’s voice work elevates the material significantly. Her delivery of the protagonist’s internal monologues—dry, calculating, and laced with a teen’s performative innocence—is what makes this audiobook stick. The production team deserves credit too; subtle ambient sounds (a creaking floorboard, a distant laugh) amplify the tension without resorting to cliché. My only real critique?
