Dance with the Alien Devil

I started listening to *Dance with the Alien Devil* expecting a light escapist romance, but York’s razor-edged prose and Oliver Highpoint’s gravelly narration pulled me into a far grittier story than I anticipated. Highpoint’s performance is a standout—his Makar is all smoldering menace and quiet intensity, but his Lira is even more compelling, her fear and defiance ringing through every syllable. The chemistry between the leads is electric, though I wished their internal monologues were a tad less repetitive about "the danger of liking him." That said, the pacing is relentless; the audiobook clocks in under five hours, and not a second feels wasted. A few fight scenes blur together in the narration, and the production could use more dynamic sound design to punctuate the action, but these are minor quibbles in an otherwise gripping listen. The ending ties everything up neatly, but don’t expect a conventional happily-ever-after—the payoff here is earned, messy, and satisfying.
