Their dynamic is a power struggle disguised as romance, and the audiobook’s narration sells every brutal, breathless moment of it. CJ Bloom’s Julia is a revelation: she sounds like a woman who’s been chewed up by life but still bites back. Her delivery during the chemo scenes is heartbreakingly grounded, while her sarcastic asides keep the character from feeling like a victim. Sebastian York, meanwhile, turns Korum into a hypnotic enigma—his voice is all smooth authority, but the way he clips certain words (like ‘*mine*’) sends chills down your spine. My only critique? The pacing stumbles in the middle during some of the political exposition; the intrigue is necessary, but the shift from white-hot tension to worldbuilding can feel jarring. And while the chemistry is electric, Korum’s redemption arc sometimes relies too heavily on Julia’s forgiveness feeling *inevitable* rather than earned.
