Vasily isn’t a tragic hero; he’s a calculating survivor, and Molly’s trust in him feels less like insta-love and more like a hostage negotiating with her kidnapper. The chemistry between them is electric precisely because it’s *uncomfortable*—a push-pull of loyalty and self-preservation that had me rewinding scenes just to catch the subtext. Kylie Stewart’s performance is a masterclass in tonal whiplash. One moment she’s delivering Molly’s sarcasm with the precision of a scalpel (‘*Of course* the vampire has a conscience. How *quaint*.’), the next she’s voicing a minor character’s terror with such raw immediacy you’ll check your locks. My only critique? The production’s occasional volume dips during action sequences—nothing ruinous, but in a scene where Molly’s racing through Moscow’s catacombs, I found myself cranking the volume, only to get blasted when the dialogue kicked back in. And while the political intrigue is deliciously labyrinthine, there’s a mid-book lull where the plot’s momentum stalls in favor of lore dumps.
