His Arthur Dent is a masterstroke: a voice that’s equal parts exhausted everyman and reluctant philosopher, sighing through lines like *“Ah, this must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays”* with the weight of a man who’s just realized Thursdays now involve inventing the wheel. The production quality is crisp, though I’d dock half a point for a few overzealous sound effects during the cricket scene—they’re fun, but they risk undermining the book’s strength, which is its *verbal* absurdity. The story itself is Adams at his most delightfully unhinged. The time-travel premise lets him riff on everything from evolutionary biology to the banality of bureaucracy, but the real joy is in the details: a caveman trying to explain fire insurance, or Ford Prefect’s increasingly desperate attempts to hitch a ride off-planet.
