I’ll admit, I went into *Daughter of the Cyber Dragons* expecting another by-the-numbers cyberpunk thriller, but Phipps and Ho delivered something far more engaging. The story’s strength lies in its *balance*—the high-octane action (think motorcycle chases through skyscraper canyons, shootouts in neon-lit nightclubs) never overshadows the character work. Kei is a fantastic lead: flawed, funny, and fiercely independent, but Ho’s performance elevates her from ‘cool protagonist’ to someone you’d actually follow into a fire. Her voice work for the supporting cast is equally strong, particularly the slick, sinister tones she gives to the corporate villains—you can *hear* the smugness dripping off them. That said, the plot occasionally stumbles under its own ambition. The middle act sags slightly as Phipps juggles multiple factions (yakuza remnants, rogue AI cults, corporate hit squads), and a few twists feel telegraphed rather than earned. The narration, while excellent, does have one minor quibble: Ho’s delivery of some male characters can veer into caricature, though it’s a small gripe in an otherwise stellar performance. The production quality is top-notch, with crisp audio and a sound design that subtly enhances the cyberpunk atmosphere without distracting. If you love your sci-fi with heart, humor, and a healthy dose of anarchy, this is a ride worth taking—just be prepared for a few bumps in the road.
