Death World

I’ll admit, I went into *Death World* expecting a straightforward ‘Catachans vs. orks’ slugfest, but Lyons subverts that fast. The first hour lulls you with classic Warhammer banter—jokes about ration bars, grizzled sergeants chewing out rookies—but then the planet *starts fighting back*. Not just with predators, but with something *older*, something that feels like it’s *watching*. The shift from black comedy to creeping cosmic horror is jarring in the best way, and Spooner’s narration sells it perfectly. His Catachans sound like soldiers who’ve seen too much but still crack jokes, while his ork voices are a chaotic delight—equal parts menacing and idiotic, just like they should be. That said, the pacing isn’t flawless. The middle act drags slightly as the squad treks through the jungle, and a few side characters blur together (though that might be intentional—war is confusing, after all). The production is crisp, though I wished for more ambient jungle noise during the quieter scenes to heighten the tension. But when the action hits? *Oh*, it hits.
