About This Audiobook

K.E. Osborn’s *Deceptive* delivers a high-stakes romantic suspense where trust is a weapon and desire is a trap. Billie, a woman running from a faceless threat, collides with the Houston Defiance MC, a brotherhood of rough-edged protectors who operate by their own code. What starts as a rescue mission spirals into a dangerous dance of attraction and suspicion, where every kiss could be a lie and every instinct might get someone killed. Osborn crafts a world where loyalty is currency and love is a liability, with Billie and her protector caught in a cat-and-mouse game that tests their limits. The tension crackles off the page, fueled by Osborn’s sharp dialogue and a hero who’s equal parts alpha and wounded, making this a romance that refuses to play by the rules. If you crave a story where passion and peril collide in equal measure, this is your next obsession.

The audiobook’s dual narration by Tor Thom and Tatiana Sokolov amplifies the story’s raw intensity. Thom’s gravelly, no-nonsense delivery grounds the gritty MC atmosphere, while Sokolov’s voice shifts seamlessly between Billie’s vulnerability and fiery defiance, making every emotional beat land with precision. Their chemistry crackles, especially in the charged scenes where words fail but desire doesn’t. The production’s crisp pacing ensures the suspense never lags, keeping listeners hooked through late-night chapters. This isn’t just a romance—it’s a pulse-pounding thriller wrapped in one of the most addictive love stories of the year.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I went into *Deceptive* expecting another brooding protector trope, but Osborn flipped the script in the best way. Billie isn’t a damsel—she’s a woman who’s learned to fight her own battles, and her chemistry with the unnamed hero (let’s call him Ghost, because that’s basically his vibe) is electric. Their banter crackles, their tension simmers, and their chemistry feels earned, not forced. The MC worldbuilding is immersive, though I wished we’d gotten more insight into the brotherhood’s dynamics beyond the surface-level loyalty tropes. The audiobook’s narration elevates this tenfold: Thom’s gruff, measured tones sell Ghost’s hardened exterior, while Sokolov’s delivery of Billie’s sarcasm and steel makes her impossible not to root for. Production-wise, the sound quality is stellar, with no distracting pops or plosives—just pure, unfiltered tension. That said, the pacing stumbles in the final act. The last 90 minutes rush through resolutions at a breakneck speed, leaving some emotional payoff feeling rushed. And while I love a good enemies-to-lovers arc, the hero’s “tortured protector” act veers into brooding territory a little too often. But these quibbles don’t dim the fire of the story itself. If you love romances where the stakes are life and death—literally—*Deceptive* will have you glued to your headphones until the very end. Protagonists you’ll cheer for, villains you’ll want to punch, and a love story that’s as dangerous as it is delicious.
