As someone who's always been a sucker for a good forbidden love story, Desert Heat & Native Tongue had me hooked from the start. Felthouse's writing is raw and powerful, painting a vivid picture of the harsh Afghan desert and the equally challenging emotional landscape of her characters. Joel Leslie's narration is a standout feature of this audiobook. His ability to capture the essence of each character, from the stoic Captain Wilkes to the passionate Ali, is nothing short of impressive. However, I must admit, the pacing felt a tad slow in places, which sometimes took me out of the story. But the chemistry between the leads, the intense emotional journey, and the thrilling action sequences more than made up for it. This is a story that will stay with you long after you've hit pause.
