Desiring the Highlander

Anne Flosnik narrates this beast of an audiobook with the precision of a surgeon and the warmth of a hearthside storyteller. Her voice morphs effortlessly between the gruff authority of the Highland warriors and the breathy vulnerability of the heroine, who’s equal parts fierce and fragile. Flosnik nails the Scottish brogue without veering into parody, and her pacing is masterful—she knows when to linger on a lingering kiss and when to snap the plot forward like a drawn sword. That said, the sheer volume of characters (seven brothers!) can be overwhelming at first; I found myself scrambling to keep them straight, especially in the early chapters. And while Sinclair’s world-building is vivid, the secondary characters occasionally blur together, making it hard to invest in their arcs. Still, Flosnik’s performance elevates the material so much that the flaws fade into the background. The production is crisp, with subtle sound design that immerses you in the Highlands—just don’t expect a quiet listen. The heat level here is *not* for the prudish, and the climactic battle scenes are as loud and chaotic as they should be. If you’re here for a love story steeped in history and testosterone, this is your audiobook. If you prefer delicate Regencies, look elsewhere.
