Deus Vult

RK Meier's narration is the perfect complement to Johnson's detailed, almost clinical account of the First Crusade. Meier's deep, resonant voice lends gravitas to the proceedings, making even the most gruesome details feel strangely compelling. The pacing is excellent, balancing the build-up to each battle with the aftermath, giving listeners a true sense of the ebb and flow of war. However, some listeners might find the lack of emotional interpretation in Meier's narration a bit too detached. Also, while the historical accuracy is commendable, the sheer volume of names and places can be overwhelming at times.
